Utah Business Law
Utah Business Law
Utah Business Law is a Huge Topic. There are so many aspects of it. It's best to drill down to what type of business you are engaged in to determine how best to help you.
For example, if you employ people, you need to file taxes and withholdings and have a worker's compensation policy. If you don't do things right, you could get into big trouble with the State of Utah. We had a case where a company had to close it's doors because the penalties were so high and the cost to fight the State so high that it was cheaper to close the business down than to fight the State. We don't want that to happen to you.
If you have a commercial site, we always recommend having a CGL or Commercial General Liability policy or "umbrella" policy to cover you in case disaster strikes.
Asset protection also plays a role in business. Once you start earning and savings some money, you don't want to leave everything subject to attack! So make sure you consult with us about how to protect your assets.
Finally, you need to know about any regulations that affect your specific industry. For example, if you are a dentist, there are regulations that you are subject to which others are not. Take the time to go over the regs affecting you and ask us about them. Sometimes business owners need to have securities licenses or are engaged in selling securities and can get criminally charged when they did not realize that they were doing that when they were raising money to start a business. Make sure you speak with us and go over the PPM to make sure you are doing things right.
Business can be risky, but you don't have to loose your shirt. Call us before making a bad decision.

Do I need a Health Care Directive? 801-676-5507 Utah Attorney Mike Anderson explains...
So it seems that alot of people have questions about Health Care Directives (they are also called Living Wills or Health Care Powers of Attorney).
I was asked by a new client -- > Do I really need a health care power of attorney?
Answer - Well, yes, of course you do.
Unless of course, you want to be held captive to hospitals and doctors who will profit at you being brain-dead, on life support, and them keeping you alive for as long as your insurance will pay (or as long as you have assets that can cover the costs) (or as long as the government will foot the bill for).
Yes, I know I'm a little crass sometimes, but hey, this is the truth my friends.
I mean, come one, you don't want to be stuck in a hospital any longer than you have to be, right? And if you are like me, when I'm braindead, when my mind is gone, when I'm only alive because a machine keeps me alive, then pull the plug because I don't want that kind of life. Most of my clients don't want that either.
We all want to feel good. Live a long life. Live a functional life, as long as we can do so.
I've never met anyone who's said to me -- Mike, I don't want them to pull the plug. Or Mike, make sure they keep me on a ventilator for as long as possible.
NOOOOO!!!!
You wouldn't either. Am I right?
So watch this brief video explain my thoughts of Utah Health Care Directives.
As usual, I hope you enjoyed watching and reading my blog.
